Subramaniam: National Dual Training System to be enhanced
SEGAMAT (Oct 30, 2011): The National Dual Training System (NDTS), a programme carried out under the Human Resources Ministry to help school dropouts, will be enhanced to ensure its effectiveness, Minister Datuk Seri Dr S Subramaniam said here.
He said the measures to be taken included increasing the payment to institutes and employers involved in the programme.
"We hope that these measures can help enhance the skills of this group," he told reporters at a Deepavali celebration at Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Kenangan, Batu Anam, last night.
He was asked to comment on the Auditor-General's Report 2010 which found the NDTS performance unsatisfactory.
Subramaniam, who is MIC deputy president and Segamat Member of Parliament, said that under the programme, school dropouts were given skills training, either at training institutes or participating employers.
Commenting on the plan by the Malaysian Trade Union Congress (MTUC) to hold a picket to protest against the proposed amendments to the Employment Act, Subramaniam said he was saddened by the plan of the congress.
"I have explained the matter several times, including during the winding-up of debate on the matter in Parliament recently, as well at a meeting with the MTUC leaders last week.
"They agreed to my proposal for the setting up of a committee, involving the government, employers and workers, to protect the rights of workers," he added.
He said the system had been practised in many countries and proven effective in solving disputes between workers and their employers. – Bernama
